Start your journey early to dodge the hustle and bustle of Chandigarh’s traffic as you embark on the Himalayan Expressway, leading you toward the majestic Himalayas. En route, stop at Chail, a serene hill station nestled in the lower Himalayan range, famous for its beautiful flower orchards. Take a short break for lunch before continuing your journey to Narkanda, known as the fruit bowl of Himachal Pradesh. Enjoy the stunning views of apple and cherry trees lining the roads, while the majestic Deodar fir trees fill the air with their captivating fragrance.
Set off for one of the most stunning views in Kinnaur Valley. Follow the Sutlej River until you reach Karcham, where you’ll turn right toward Chitkul, following the Baspa River. Chitkul is the last inhabited village before the Indo-China border, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayan landscape. While you’re there, be sure to stop at the famous ‘Hindustan ka Akhri Dhaba’ for a hearty meal.
Embark on a scenic journey through the captivating Kinnaur Valley, making your way to Nako, a village surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. Your adventure will take you to Nako, a charming village nestled at the edge of the Kinnaur district. Upon arrival and check-in, immerse yourself in the tranquility of Nako Monastery, gracefully situated beside the reflective Nako Lake. Take your time to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere as you stroll through the monastery’s corridors adorned with vibrant paintings. Explore a collection of Kangyur scriptures that embody the direct teachings of Lord Buddha. As the day comes to an end, find a quiet spot by Nako Lake and witness the mesmerizing transformation of the water’s colors as the sun sets behind the majestic mountains.
Begin your expedition by traversing Sumdo and soaking in the stunning landscapes of Spiti Valley. Just 3 km past Sumdo, take a right turn for a detour to Gue Monastery, home to an extraordinary 500-year-old mummy. Next, discover the historic Tabo Monastery, a revered Buddhist sanctuary nestled in the Indian Himalayas. Continue your journey to Pin Valley National Park, famous for being a haven for rare wildlife species such as Snow Leopards, Siberian Ibex, and Tibetan Gazelles. Wrap up your day’s adventures with a drive to Kaza for check-in, marking the conclusion of an exhilarating day of explorations.
Start your day by visiting Komik, the highest village in Asia, celebrated for its panoramic views and known as the “eye of a snow cock.” Continue your journey to Hikkim, where you can explore the world’s highest post office and send postcards to your loved ones. Next, head to Langza, home to the ancient Lang Temple, believed to be over 1,000 years old, and immerse yourself in its rich history. Then, visit the iconic Key Monastery, renowned for its beautifully painted walls and tranquil atmosphere. Conclude your day’s exploration at the Chicham Bridge, Asia’s highest bridge, and marvel at its architectural grandeur and stunning surroundings.
Begin your return journey to Kalpa in Kinnaur Valley by retracing your steps. Along the way, take a brief detour to the left to visit the charming village of Dhankar and its impressive fort monastery, which is believed to be over 1,000 years old and perched on rocky spurs. If time allows, consider a one-hour hike above the village to enjoy the stunning views of the turquoise Dhankar Tso or Dhankar Lake, which offers breathtaking vistas of the valley. Continue your journey, saying goodbye to Spiti Valley, and upon reaching Powari, turn right towards Reckong Peo, the main town of the Kinnaur district, before proceeding to Kalpa.
